The Wyoming Game and Fish Department and partners are hosting four bear safety trainings and bear spray giveaways throughout the state in August. The upcoming free events will be taking place in Pinedale, Lander and Cody.
You'll learn how and when to deploy bear spray, how to stay bear-wise in bear country, and have the chance to ask experts about bears in the Cowboy State. Brush up on your bear-aware skills, especially if you're headed out to hunt this season.
You can learn more about the events by visiting the Safari Club International Foundation website. Come visit with us, and "Robobear," this month!
Approximately 100 cans of bear spray will be given away at each location on a first come, first served basis to individuals holding a valid WY hunting or fishing license.
Bear spray training will be utilizing a remote-controlled charging bear simulator (“Robobear”) to create a time stressed situation, allowing participants to try their hand at accessing and spraying the charging bear. Other bear education opportunities will be present, demonstrating electric fence installations, tactics around tents and campsites, and more.
