Heart Mountain Interpretive Center - Winter Program
Heart Mountain Interpretive Center will host three special programs this winter, each examining a different aspect of the history of the World War II era Japanese American confinement site. The center’s Executive Director, Dakota Russell, will present the programs “The Resistance” on Saturday, January 26; “The People Outside the Fence” on Saturday, February 23; and “Wyoming’s Japanese American Legacy” on Saturday, March 30. All programs will begin at 1 p.m. and are free with museum admission.
“The Resistance,” the first program in the series, will focus on the story of the Heart Mountain Fair Play Committee. In the summer of 1944, 63 young draft resisters from the Heart Mountain camp were tried and convicted in Cheyenne. It remains the largest mass trial in Wyoming history. This presentation will explore the beginnings of the resistance movement at Heart Mountain that led to this dramatic event.
All three programs are free with museum admission. Alternatively, visitors may purchase a $9.00 “season pass” at the interpretive center that will cover admission for the entire series. Admission is free for Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation members.
