Join us for the November Lunchtime Expedition, Wolverine Conservation: Giving Up Control to Promote Breeding Success, presented by Melissa Roman from ZooMontana.
The in-person talk takes place in the Center’s Coe Auditorium, with a virtual attendance option available at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_dcS3WETiSl-hu1TTUcGeNQ
ZooMontana’s Melissa Roman discusses the challenges faced by wild wolverine populations as well as the challenges ZooMontana faces in captive breeding.
Roman outlines how adapting to the needs of the wolverine population in general—as well as the needs of individuals—has led to a recent increase in the success of captive breeding programs within the U.S. zoo system. In addition, the recent increase in public interest in this species due to more intensive research projects and news coverage lends credence to the possibility of a more sustainable wild population.
Melissa Roman is the lead Asia keeper at ZooMontana, where she has worked for the past six years. For the past two years, she has had the privilege of working with ZooMontana’s resident wolverines, during which the zoo had its first successful wolverine births. This year, ZooMontana is home to the only wolverine kit born in a United States zoo.
